Skoda unwraps VisionC study – possibly previews Octavia CC

Skoda VisionC study side

Skoda has released the first official images of the VisionC study following an earlier teaser. Set to bow in at the Geneva Motor Show, Skoda says the VisionC is its first “five-door coupé”.

According to Skoda, the VisionC showcases the brand’s “more expressive, dynamic and emotional” design language. The study is also said to demonstrate the possibilities in innovative and emotional chassis design.

Looking like Skoda’s version of an Audi A7, the VisionC features crisp lines that interplay with soft, slightly contoured surfaces. Its wide stance is exaggerated by the one piece lower front bumper that stretches from one end to the other.

The designers have also clearly use the triangular shape as an inspiration for both front and back, with evidence of it in the headlights and rear taillights that form a triangle together with the crease in the bodywork.

While no photos or details of the interior have been released, the Czech-based manufacturer said the VisionC is designed for four people and their luggage, with the large rear hatch offering excellent loading capacity.

Built on Volkswagen now ubiquitous MQB platform, the VisionC draws its power from a bi-fuel 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can run on petrol or CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). It delivers 81kW (109hp) of power and average 3.4kg of CNG per kilometre, with CO2 emissions rated at 91g/km. The study is said to already meet the strict EU2020 CO2 emissions standard.

While Skoda has not confirmed whether or not the VisionC will make it to production in its press release, Skoda’s chief, Winfried Vahland confirmed late last year that the brand has plans to bring a five-door coupé variant of the Octavia liftback to the market.

Let’s hope they do.
