McLaren P1 side

A new wave of Nürburgring lap record war is brewing. First it was the Porsche 911, then it was Nissan with its GT-R Nismo, then it’s back to Porsche in the latest round with its 918 Spyder setting the lap record of 6 minutes and 57 seconds. Now, a new contender has entered the ‘Ring.

McLaren has released a spectacular video of their P1 hypercar pounding the “Green Hell”. However, they stopped short of revealing the exact timing it took the car to go around the circuit. All McLaren said was the P1 lapped the track in under 7 minutes.

What they did reveal was the P1 clocked an average speed in excess of 179km/h around Nordschleife and it hit a top speed of 330km/h on the Dottinger Hohe straight. According to the sports car maker, the feat was achieved with a set of standard-fit road tyres.
