Simplified 2019 Jaguar XE range steps up in tech and features

Jaguar Australia has streamlined its XE mid-size sedan range to just two offerings as part of a mid-life update.

Simplified from 15 variants when the XE was first introduced in 2015, the 2019 line-up is now available in just the R-Dynamic SE and HSE trims, both powered by the 221kW/400Nm 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo petrol engine shared with the E-Pace compact crossover and Range Rover Velar mid-size SUV.

Paired exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the 2.0L turbo XE is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100km/h in a claimed 5.9 seconds.

The rejigged XE range means the Jaguar will no longer offer the previous 3.0-litre supercharged V6 in the S performance variant and 2.0-litre turbo diesel model.

Subtly updated for 2019, the XE gets a more purposeful and assertive stance, with contemporary design cues inspired by the F-Type sportscar. The front bumper has been restyled with larger aperture, while the new full LED headlights get a more pronounced ‘J’ blade daytime running light signature. The rear features a new bumper design and slender all-LED tail-lights with updated clusters which accentuate the visual width of the car.

The R-Dynamic models express their sporting potentials through dark mesh detailing to the rear valance and alternative wheel styles. On the interior, the sporting influences continue with sports-style seats with contrast stitching, Satin Chrome gearshift paddles and R-Dynamic treadplates.

Highlight of the updated interior is the new steering wheel, shared with the all-electric I-Pace and features hidden-until-lit graphics and tactile switches for intuitive control of key functions.

Also shared with the I-Pace, the XE gets Jaguar’s new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, delivering improved usability through a pair of high-resolution touchscreens. DAB+, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard, so is wireless device charging.
