Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe Concept unveiled

First images of the Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe Concept have been released ahead of its debut at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show which starts this weekend. The official photos follow initial sketches that were leaked on the web yesterday.

The CrossBlue Coupe Concept previews Volkswagen’s next-generation of sporty crossovers, suggesting the company’s plan to build models rivalling coupe-like crossovers like the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, both also scheduled to be unveiled in Shanghai, as well as the Range Rover Evoque. The CrossBlue concept is 4.89 meters long, 2.02 meters wide and has a 2.98-meter wheelbase.

The hybrid powerplant in the CrossBlue Concept consists of a direct-injection turbocharged V6 engine paired with two electric motors to produce a combined output of 309 kW (415 hp). The setup enables the concept to hit 100km/h from standstill in just 5.9 seconds, yet consumes just 3 litres of fuel per 100km. In pure electric propulsion, the CrossBlue Concept has a range of up to 33km.
