Video: The creation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Mercedes-Benz has released a video showing the creation highlights of the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Like most cars, the project started with a brief for the design team. For the latest S-Class, it was to build the “most innovative and refined Mercedes-Benz ever made”. Designers then started off with a series of sketches that were eventually turned into scaled clay models.

These clays models, showing different design options, were presented to the Mercedes-Benz management group for approval.

Once the design was approved, the first prototypes were constructed by a team of engineers.  This allowed the design team and engineers to iron out any potential issues with the design and engineering. Once they were happy with that, the prototypes were put through a series of gruelling tests to make sure that everything was up to the standards.

This part of the S-Class development was the most crucial, as Daimler Chairman, Dieter Zetsche explained: “The S-Class moves the people who make things move. No other Mercedes, and probably no other car, so completely embodies the aspiration of Gottlieb Daimler – The Best of Nothing.”

In the video, you’ll also be taken on a tour of the new S-Class’ various safety and comfort features.
