Opel has just announced the pricing of its entire range of hot OPC models, from the feisty Opel Corsa OPC, from $28,990, to the Insignia OPC, from $59,990. This is in addition to the Astra OPC which is priced from $42,990, announced last year.
The Astra OPC and Insignia OPC will start arriving in showrooms from mid-February, while the Corsa OPC will land in April.
The three-door Corsa OPC is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine mated with Opel’s six-speed manual transmission. It generates 141kW of power and 260Nm of torque with overboost. Against the Volkswagen Polo GTI, the Corsa OPC has an extra 9kW and 10Nm but it is claimed to achieve 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds, 0.3 seconds slower than the Polo GTI. Top speed is 225km/h. Average fuel consumption is rated at 7.5L/100km.
Meanwhile, Astra OPC is propelled by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 206kW of power and a monstrous 400Nm of torque. This is against the VW Scirroco R’s 188kW/330Nm and the RenaultSport Megane RS265’s 195kW/360Nm.
The all important century sprint is accomplished in 6.0 seconds for the Astra OPC and Megane RS, while the Scirocco R is 0.2 seconds adrift (6.0 seconds for the DSG equipped Sciroco R). Combined fuel consumption for the Astra OPC is 8.1L/100km.
The most powerful production vehicle Opel has ever made, the Insignia OPC sedan, is powered by a 2.8-litre V6 Turbo petrol engine. It produces a healthy 239kW of power and 435Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The model will be the first Opel in Australia to come with Opel’s Adaptive 4X4 technology, using a bespoke chassis developed through an extensive test programme at the gruelling Nürburgring circuit in Germany.
Opel is also giving car enthusiasts the chance to receive selected, performance-related data by offering Apple iPhone® and iPad® users the OPC PowerApp which is available for download for 99 cents from Apple’s Australian App Store®.
Sixty different data, including engine boost pressure, throttle position, lateral acceleration or engine torque, are readily available in real-time on the smart phone.
