2012 AIMS: Opel Astra OPC launched from $42,990

Opel launched its high-performance Astra OPC at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. Available from February next year, the most powerful Astra to-date is priced from just $42,990 (excluding on-road costs).

Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces a healthy 206kW of power and 400Nm of torque, the head turning hot-hatch dashes from 0-100km/h in just 6.0 seconds, making the quickest Astra ever. This compares well with the Renaultsport Megane RS265 and the more expensive Volkswagen Scirocco R.

Stopping power comes courtesy of front Brembo brakes, while a chunky body kit that includes handsome 19-inch alloy wheels, or optional 20-inch items, highlights the car’s sporty nature.

Inside, the Astra OPC comes with body-hugging sports bucket seats wrapped in Nappa leather with adjustable bolsters, a premium sound system and a 7” touch-screen infotainment system.

The hot Astra OPC is available for order now at any Opel dealers nationwide for delivery next year. Five exterior colour options are available: Carbon Black, Flamming Yellow, Power Red, Summit White and the hero colour that you see here, Arden Blue.
