These are the first photos of the all-new McLaren entry-level supercar, in prototype form. Codenamed P13, the new baby McLaren was spotted in the undergoing testing in the wild for the first time.

Slated to debut in 2015, the McLaren P13 is part of the new established “Sports Series”. The model will slot below the 650S and will be sold both as a coupe and spider. A hardcore version is also in the cards to bridge the performance gap between the P13 and 650S.

The new McLaren Sports Series will go up against the likes of Mercedes-AMG GT, Ferrari California T, Lamborghini Huracan and Porsche 911 Turbo S. Power will likely come from the company’s familiar twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine, albeit with power lobbed off the 625 Club’s 441kW (600hp) to avoid clashing. The powerplant will be matched with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

The Sports Series will pack a smaller dimension compared to its larger 650S sibling. Expect lots of carbon fibre in the bodywork to keep the weight in check. It will also feature McLaren’s trademark butterfly doors.

McLaren says its new baby model will bring “pure McLaren” experience. All will be unwrapped in the second half of 2015.
