2016 Mini Cooper Convertible Pricing and Specs revealed

Last month it was revealed that the new MINI Cooper Convertible will be coming to Australia. Today official pricing and specifications have been revealed ahead of launch with the entry model starting at just $37,990 plus on-road costs.

The entry level model is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission as standard, in addition to alloy wheels, reversing camera with guide lines, fully automatic soft-top with sliding roof function and rear Park Distance Control. It’s powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine. The 100kW/220Nm MINI Cooper Convertible accelerates from 0-100km/h in 8.7 seconds, and consumes 5.3-litres of fuel per 100km on the combined cycle.

The more expensive Cooper S convertible adds a six-speed sports automatic transmission, John Cooper Works leather steering wheel, cloth/leather upholstery, MINI Navigation System, LED headlights as well as an uplift in power. Generating 141kW/280Nm, the MINI Cooper S Convertible sprints from 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds and records a fuel economy figure on the combined cycle of 5.8 litres per 100km.

Developed on the third generation MINI Hatch platform, the new MINI Convertible features increased dimensions compared to its predecessor model, resulting in greater interior comfort and storage capacity.  The new MINI Convertible is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller. It’s wheelbase has also increased by 28mm.

Luggage volume has expanded by nearly 25 per cent to 215-litres with a closed top and 160-litres when the roof is retracted.

The fully automatic, electric roof with sliding function can open and close the soft top and side windows in 18 seconds, and is operable up to 30km/h.  As an alternative to the standard version of the soft top in black, a MINI ‘Yours’ soft top is available for the first time as an option, comprising an integrated woven graphic featuring a black and grey Union Jack motif in a high-end herringbone pattern.

MINI service and selected maintenance costs can now be covered by a single, one-off advance payment with MINI Service Inclusive. MINI Service Inclusive offers two packages; MINI Service Inclusive Basic provides scheduled servicing cover, while MINI Service Inclusive Plus combines scheduled servicing and selected maintenance items.
