Citroen DSX concept headed to Shanghai Auto Show – previews SUV

The Citroen DSX Concept you see here will be heading to the Shanghai Auto Show in April, and is likely to preview an upmarket SUV from the French manufacturer.

Based on the DS5 architecture, the car will be 4,700mm long and is set to utilise Citroen’s range of petrol and diesel engines. A diesel-electric hybrid variant is also on the cards when it hits production in 2014.

The hybrid powertrain will only be available on AWD models, where the electric motor will drive the rear wheels while the front wheels are driven by the internal combustion engine. The latter will be PSA’s HDi 163 diesel engine that generates 120kW (163HP). The electric motor is said to offer an additional 34kW (37HP) for a combined output of 147kW (200HP), just like the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid.

Price is estimated to start at around €39,000 when it goes on sale in Europe in late 2014.

The production DSX is also set to hit showrooms in China. However, due to the country’s resistance to diesel engines, Citroen will swap the diesel with a 1.6-litre THP petrol engine producing 179kW (243HP).
