VW Mk7 Golf GTI TCR dialed up to 246kW

The Mk7 Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR might be the last hurrah for the venerable model before the new one lobs in but that doesn’t stop German tuners, Maxi-Tuner and Dronia Sportwagen from teaming up to squeeze even more style and power from the hot hatch.

Set to arrive in Australia later this year, the Golf GTI TCR churns out 213kW at 5,400 to 6,400rpm, and 380Nm of torque between 1,950 and 5,300rpm from the factory, making it the most powerful Golf GTI you can buy.

Mated to a standard seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels, the Golf TCR rockets from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds.

If that’s impressive, the 246kW and 460Nm of torque Maxi-Tuner manage to wring out of the TCR’s TSI from just a software optimisation will be music to enthusiasts’ ears, as that’s more than what you get from a stock VW Golf R.

The extra firepower enables the modded Golf GTI TCR to blast from 0-100km/h in just 5.1 seconds, and 70-130km/h in just 4.0 seconds.

As you’ll notice from the photos here, the extra performance is matched with a set of Eibach coil-over suspension with tweaked dampers compression and rebound stage settings, and MaxSpeed light alloy wheels featuring a high-gloss black finish on the left hand side, and mouse grey on the right.

They measure 8.5 x 19-inch and are shod with 235/35 R19 Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 tyres.

The stock VW Golf GTI TCR is priced from $51,490 plus on-roads in Australia.
