Mountune turns VW Mk7 Golf GTI into 283kW hyper-hatch

While the Mk8 Volkswagen Golf GTI is on its way to European showrooms, Mountune52 has taken the Mk7-generation into hyper-hatch sphere with its Stage 2+ upgrade package.

For £2,099 (A$4,193), the new kit will boost the GTI’s 2.0-litre TSI output to a healthy 283kW and stout 510Nm of torque, or 70 per cent more than its factory output of 162kW. As a result, Mountune52 claims their Stage 2+ Golf GTI will hit 100km/h from a standstill in just 5.3 seconds.

Key to the lift in power is the IS38 turbocharger borrowed from the Golf R. Besides the new turbo, the tuner has also created a custom engine calibration and an optional upgraded clutch for manual models to get the most from the new turbo. DSG-equipped cars also benefit from Mountune52’s TCU calibration upgrade.

Customers can select the different settings, including Stage 2+, stock, valet and anti-theft via the company’s mTune handset.

For peace of mind, Mountune52 provides a 12 months/12,000 miles (19,312km) warranty on the new upgrade. However, recommends customers who live in hot climates or those who intend to push the car hard on the track to add an induction system, turbo-back exhaust and upgraded intercooler, all of which are optional.

The kit is offered either as a DIY bundle or customers can have it fitted by Mountune52 if they are in the UK.
