The one-off Lexus NX customised and designed by Grammy award-winning artist will.i.am has been unwrapped an at exclusive launch party in Paris.
The Black Eyed Peas frontman, often known as the “multifaceted entertainer and creative innovator”, is collaborating with Lexus to work on provocative design and technology as part of the Lexus Striking Angles campaign. The special edition NX 200f F Sport was presented by will.i.am before performing a DJ set for invited guests from across Europe.
The NX is Lexus’ first entry into the premium compact SUV segment, featuring an edgy and emotional design evolved from the controversial Lexus LF-NX concept. The bold design shows Lexus recent initiative to attract younger buyers to the brand, starting with the new Lexus IS.
The unique will.i.am-designed Lexus NX takes things to the eleven with a customised matte pearl white exterior paintwork, flared front and rear fenders, black-tinted panoramic glass roof, rear spoiler and massive 22-inch luminous black machined wheels. The widebody Lexus NX also sits closer to the ground thanks to lowered suspension, and the orange brake calipers further add to its aggressive looks.
Inside, will.i.am’s vision takes the form of a monochrome colour scheme with distinctive combination of brushed aluminium and contrasting soft materials. The modified seats are upholstered in soft Nappa leather, specified by will.i.am and hand-embroidered with his willpower logo. The brushed aluminium floor mats are also to his personal specification.
“When I found out Lexus wanted me to be involved in the Striking Angles campaign, my first thought was, can I design a car with you?” said will.i.am when talking about his special version of the NX.
“I am honoured to be launching my bespoke Lexus NX F Sport in Paris, this car is super fresh and incorporates my personal style. My point of view is, the best kind of design will encourage other people to interpret that design,” continued the artist.
The Lexus NX is offered in two powertrains: the NX 300h, riding on Lexus’ well known petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, and the NX 200t, the first Lexus fitted with a turbo engine. Both will be available in front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The NX 200t is powered by a newly developed 2.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged engine producing 175 kW and 340 Nm, while the NX 300h combines a high thermal efficiency 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with an integrated high-torque electric motor for a total output of 164 kW and 221 Nm.
