A STI-fettled BRZ has been an on and off affair for Subaru over the last few years. But the latest spark suggests that there’s a high possibility the BRZ STI might actually be heading to production.
Going by a photo posted by Subaru America’s Instagram page, Subaru might be teasing the long-awaited, long-speculated BRZ STI high performance sports coupe.
The teaser image shows the rear of a World Rally Blue BRZ with a towering rear wing – a trademark of all STI-badge models. The wing appears to be made of carbon fiber and is joined to the BRZ’s trunk via two stanchions. STI logo can be seen on the end plate of the wing.
Accompanying the picture is the caption “Stay tuned…6/8/17. #STI”. The date seems to be referring to the Isle of Man TT motorcycle racing carnival where, last year, Subaru’s Prodrive rally team broke the lap record in a highly tuned Subaru WRX STI during a demonstration hot lap.
What exactly is Subaru up to? We will just have to wait and see, but if it’s anything like the 2015 New York motor show’s BRZ STI Performance Concept (pictured above), we are all up for it!
Currently, the hottest BRZ the company is offering is the BRZ Sports Pack special edition (below) which features Brembo brakes, Sachs Suspension, STI 17″ wheels, black rear wing, black mirrors and black badges for $2,300 over the standard BRZ 2.0 Premium.
