Mercedes to introduce AMG sub-brand – C450 AMG Sport to be the first

Mercedes-Benz will follow in the footsteps of rivals, BMW and Audi, by introducing an AMG sub-brand. Like BMW’s M Performance range and Audi’s S range, the AMG Sport models will sit between the top of the Mercedes-Benz ranges and the entry-level AMGs.

According to reports, the first AMG Sport model will be the C450 AMG Sport, which will have a 275kW and 550Nm twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine – around 30kW more than the C400 complimented by a beefier soundtrack tuned by AMG.

The more muscular engine will be matched with a slightly more aggressive body kit to distinguish it from the ‘cooking’ models, along with slightly firmer AMG-tuned suspension, wider tracks, bigger tyres, more equipment and a sportier interior.

Mercedes is quick to point out that while the AMG Sport range may carry the coveted AMG badge, they are not full blown AMGs, which will continue to sit at the top of its respective models.

Expect the entire Mercedes-Benz range to get the AMG Sport treatment in the next few years.
