Further to our earlier report, Mercedes-Benz has now confirmed that the company will expand the range with the new AMG Sport lineup. The AMG sub-brand will be the Stuttgart-based manufacturer’s answer to BMW’s M Performance and Audi’s S Line range.
Mercedes-Benz said the lineup will offer enhanced performance and technical refinements. The range will also feature mildly tweaked engines, all-wheel drive in selected markets and AMG enhanced chassis and brake package.
Along with the announcement, Mercedes-Benz released an image featuring the first two AMG Sport models, with one likely to be the C450 AMG Sport, while the other a high-riding SUV which is expected to be the GLE Coupe.
The BMW X6 rival will be based on the upcoming M-Class, which will be renamed the GLE following Mercedes-Benz recently announced new naming convention.
“The new Sport models represent a convincing proposition for our customers: genuine sports car technology becomes accessible, appealing to an even broader-ranging clientele worldwide,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
“In the next three years we aim to more than double our total sales for 2013,” he announced.
