John Cooper Works MINI pricing and specifications

MINI John Cooper Works side

MINI Australia has announced the pricing and specifications for the first John Cooper Works model for the 3rd-generation MINI hatch.

Priced from $47,400 for the manual, or $49,950 for the six-speed automatic, the JCW MINI features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 170kW at 5,200-6,000rpm, and 320Nm at 1,250-4,800rpm.

The engine, said to be the most powerful from JCW, has 10 per cent more power and 23 per cent more torque over its predecessor, and is capable of propelling the hot hatch from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds for the manual, and 6.1 seconds for the auto. It will accelerate from 80 – 120km/h in 5.6 seconds – a 10 per cent improvement.

Despite its strong performance, JCW claims the engine will consume almost 20 per cent less fuel than previous model in automatic guise, or three per cent in manual form, returning 5.7L/100km for the auto and 6.7L/100km for the manual.

Newly developed for the latest model generation, the six-speed manual transmission incorporates a gear sensor enabling active engine speed adaptation, automatically adjusting the engine speed to the rotational speed of the input shaft for the gear selected, ensuring silky clutch engagement.

Fitted with Dynamic Damper Control suspension as standard, including an electronically controlled Sports setting, the track-inspired and capable small car benefits from a single-joint spring strut front axle, and a multilink rear axle, providing increased stiffness at reduced weight. A fixed permanent Sports Suspension setting is also available, providing harder springs and stiffer gas shock absorbers

MINI John Cooper Works steering

The new MINI John Cooper Works is equipped with high-performance Brembo brakes developed exclusively for the model.

It also features a Torque Steer Compensation function to mitigate against the potential of self-steering. Its Dynamic Stability Control system incorporates Dynamic Traction Control, Electronic Differential Lock Control and Performance Control and is said to support vehicle agility when cornering at speed.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, reversing camera, Park Assist with front and rear Park Distance Control, MINI Driving Modes, Professional Navigation, DAB+ tuner, Head up Display with model specific content, LED headlights, Bluetooth and Sports seats.
