Jeep Renegade pricing and specification announced

Jeep’s all-new city-sized SUV, the Renegade, has launched in Australia, with pricing for the entry-level model hitting the burgeoning compact-SUV segment at $29,500 plus on-roads.

The four-tier Jeep Renegade range marks the brand’s first entry into the small SUV class, rivaling the dominant Mazda CX-3 and Honda’s highly acclaimed HR-V. Designed in the USA and built in Italy, the Renegade will be something of an acquired taste, but Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Australia president and CEO Pat Dougherty believes it will succeed Down Under.

Speaking to the media at the launch in northern Queensland, Mr Dougherty said: “we think it’s going to have unique appeal. And while it won’t appeal to everybody, that’s the way we like a product to be. We know some people want a traditional look, but others will like the ‘Jeepness’ of this product.”

Priced at the higher end of the class, the line-up kicks off with the $29,500 Renegade Sport equipped with a 81kW and 152Nm 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

The Sport variant is also available with a more powerful 103kW and 230Nm 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine matched with a six-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, priced from $32,500.

The same 1.4 blown four-pot also powers the upper spec Longitude and Limited models, priced from $34,500 and $38,500 respectively.

Topping the range is the ruggedised Trailhawk trim. At $41,500, the Renegade Trailhawk is the only four-wheel-drive variant in the line up. It gets a 129kW and 230Nm 2.4-litre Tigershark engine mated exclusively to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Leveraging 4×4 technology from the larger Jeep Cherokee, the Renegade Trailhawk offers what the company claims is the most advanced and intelligent AWD system in its class.

Equipped with Jeep Active Drive Low which includes the Jeep Selec-Terrain system, the Trailhawk offers five driving modes – Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud and Rock mode – for the best four-wheel-drive performance on- or off-road and in any weather condition.

The Renegade’s unconventional exterior continues onto the cabin. The rugged and energetic interior offers two class-exclusive “My Sky” open-air roof systems. With a manual removable, or premium power tilt/slide with removable feature, the “My Sky” roof-panel systems quickly bring the outdoors inside. Designed for convenience, the honeycomb fiberglass polyurethane roof panels are lightweight and stow neatly in the rear cargo area.
