Citroen’s recently elevated premium brand, DS, has unveiled its first concept as a standalone brand. The DS E-Tense is an all-electric GT concept with a 296kW/516Nm motor and claimed 310km mixed cycle range.

It will blast from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250km/h.

Measuring 4.72m long, 2.08m in width and 1.29m in height, the sensuously sculpted two-seater coupe has a silhouette of a grand tourer, emphasized by a central chrome-plated spine and an exclusive metallic green ametrine body colour. Despite sitting on a carbon monocoque chssis, the E-Tense tips the scale at 1.8 tons.

Its lithium-ion batteries are located beneath the floor to reduce the centre of gravity and improve handling. The carbon fibre diffuser and flat underbody is said to contribute significantly to its aerodynamics.

Unlike conventional vehicles, the DS E-tense doesn’t have a windscreen at the back but instead relies on digital rear view technology. Its indicators are integrated into the roof, inspired by the DS 1955.

At the front, its daytime running lights is said to be a nod to the world of high fashion, but DS claims the show stoppers are the tail lamps. Equipped with full LED technology and scale-like in design, DS says they seem to spring to life whenever the car is in use. The technology is set to hit future DS models.

Meanwhile, the DS E-Tense’s front grille is a product of parametric design and 3D printing.

Inside, the stylish and high-tech interior took DS upholsterers 800 hours to design, test and produce, with particular emphasis on the watchstrap seat design and the dashboard. To create a futuristic look, cold steel is used for the dashboard and the strongly marked tulip-shape of the steering wheel. According to DS, the ultimate confirmation of its attention to detail is the guilloché work with the clous de Paris (hobnail) pattern around the toggle switches of the central console.
