2020 Mercedes-AMG A35 pricing and specification

Mercedes-AMG has announced the pricing and specifications for the A35 hatch and sedan, which are set to hit Australian showrooms in September and October, respectively.

Sitting below the recently unveiled AMG A45, the A35 is the new entry point to the Mercedes-AMG line-up.

Prices for the A35 hatchback will start from $67,200, while the A35 sedan is slightly more expensive, starting from $69,800 – all before on-road costs.

The A35 pair will compete with the $3,000 cheaper Audi S3 and to some extend, the much cheaper and closely related Volkswagen Golf R.

At the heart of the A35 is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-scroll turbocharged engine producing 225kW of power and 400Nm of torque. Power is directed at all four wheels via a seven-speed twin-clutch transmission that enables the hot hatch to race from zero to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds, before topping out at 250km/h.

Compared to the run-of-the-mill A-Class variants, the A35 gets AMG-specific chassis components, including front steering knuckles with radially bolted brake calipers and AMG Ride Control adaptive damping system with three different suspension modes.

There are also five AMG Dynamic Select drive programmes to choose from – Slipper, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual that alters the engine, transmission, sound and suspension responses.

Fuel consumption is rated at 7.6L/100km for the A35 4Matic hatch, and 7.4L/100km for the more aerodynamic efficient A35 4Matic sedan.

On the styling front, the pair gets AMG-specific twin-louvre radiator grille, an AMG Line front apron with flics on the outer air intakes, AMG Line side sill panels and aerodynamically optimised 19-inch light alloy wheels, while the rear includes a new diffuser framed by two round tailpipe trims, along with a lip spoiler on the tailgate.

Australian models will be delivered with electrically-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and hands-free access to the electrically-operated tailgate as standard.

An AMG Edition 1 package costing $6,990 will be offered as an option. It brings a more aggressive AMG aerodynamic package, AMG Performance seats, AMG multi-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels and “Tech Gold” colour highlights over Denim Blue metallic paintwork.

Mercedes-AMG A35 pricing (excluding on-road costs):

  • A35 4Matic hatch – $67,200
  • A35 4Matic sedan – $69,800
