2017 Volkswagen Golf 7.5 Performance range pricing and specification

Volkswagen Australia has launched a heavily revised and more potent performance Golf range, with three models joining the updated 2017 Golf 7.5 range of hatches and wagons.

As part of the new upgrades that began with the launch of standard Golf hatch and wagon ranges, and the newly enhanced Golf Alltrack range in July, the Golf high performance range benefits from the same suite of technology and infotainment advances premiered in the updated Golf line-up. Highlights include larger, high-resolution infotainment screens with the latest in connectivity, the availability of Active Info Display digital instrumentation and an array of additional active and passive safety system.

From launch, Volkswagen Australia has reinvigorated the Golf GTI and Golf R models, as well as introducing a new take on the fan-favourite GTI Performance, the Golf GTI Performance Edition 1, which also heralds the return of the popular three door body style.

Golf GTI

In its new 7.5 guise, the Golf GTI has been extensively upgraded. 2017 Golf GTI specification:

Golf GTI Performance Edition 1

The original performance hatch has returned in the shape in which it was conceived – Volkswagen’s Golf GTI can once more be had in three door form.

As part of the renewed Golf 7.5 model line-up, 150 examples of the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Edition 1 will be released in August to coincide with the Australian launch of the standard Golf GTI and the Golf R.

The three-door Golf GTI Performance Edition 1 is the first in a series of limited release GTI Performance variants foreshadowed last year by the Golf GTI 40 years, a run of 500 that rapidly sold out.

Available in either White Silver or Dark Iron Blue metallic paint, the Golf GTI Performance Edition 1 gets a more powerful 180kW/370Nm 2.0 TSI engine paired exclusively with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

In its renewed “7.5” form, the 2017 Golf R now breaks the five second barrier for the 0-100km/h sprint when equipped with the new seven-speed DSG transmission and more powerful 213kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol four.
