A new teaser video of the upcoming BMW 2-Series coupe has been released ahead of its scheduled debut on October 25, 2013.

The new BMW 2-Series will replace the 1-Series coupe and convertible when it goes on sale in early 2014, with production to begin in November this year. Following the footsteps of the 4-Series, the name change is part of BMW’s plan to have the coupe and convertible versions of mainstream models wearing an even numbered nameplate, hence the “2” designation for the coupe and convertible versions of the 1-Series.

Only early this month, the full specifications of the 2-Series were released by BMW South Africa. The range will include the 220i, 220d and 225i. Topping the range is the M235i with a 3.0-litre turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine under the bonnet developing 240 kW of power and 450 Nm of torque, enough to smash the first 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds when paired with the automatic transmission, while the manual is 0.2 seconds slower.

Further down the track, the range will be joined by the high performance M2 coupe, which will be motivated by a tweaked version of the 3.0-litre turbocharged engine found in the M235i. The M2 is expected to make over 257 kW of power, enough for the 1M Coupe replacement to complete the century mark in the low 4 seconds.

Stay tuned as we bring you the official photos of the BMW 2-Series coupe come its launch.
