Major update for 2025 BMW iX brings all-round improvement

The updated BMW iX electric SUV will arrive in Australia in the middle of 2025 starting with the iX xDrive45 M Sport which replaces the iX xDrive40 Sport.

The latest update is the most extensive ever applied to iX, including a major facelift to the exterior, revised interior and improved performance.

Upgrades to key drivetrain and electronic components result in a power increase of 25 per cent, a 38 per cent increase in driving range and a 17 per cent faster charging rate.

The new iX now produces 300kW and 700Nm, an increase of 60kW and 30Nm over the previous model. The higher output shaves 1 second of the 0 to 100km/h sprint time to stop the clock at just 5.1 seconds.

A new battery cell technology lifts the energy content of the high-voltage battery to 94.8kWh. On the road, this translates to a longer driving range of up to 602km according to the WLTP cycle.

Adaptive recuperation contributes to increased efficiency, while the Max Range function can also increase the range remaining before the next charging stop by up to 25 per cent.

The iX is now capable of DC fast charging up to 175kW, an increase from the previous model’s 150kW rating. Meanwhile, AC charging is possible up to 22kW.

The optimised battery technology has also improved weight balance, which compliments revised chassis and suspension set-up. The new iX is said to offer improved dynamics and ride comfort, while rolling resistance is also reduced contributing to increased efficiency.

New aerodynamically optimised alloy wheel designs are offered, ranging in size from 21- to 23-inch, all of which are fitted with a tyre pressure monitoring system.
