2013 Toyota RAV4 launched in Australia

The all-new 2013 Toyota RAV4 has hit Australian showrooms with price reductions on all but two models, and for the first time, a diesel variant have been added to the range.

As the popular RAV4 enters its 20th year on the local market, it has been given a thorough facelift for a sportier look. Toyota has also promised sharper driving dynamics, courtesy of a new all-wheel drive system and a selectable Sport mode on most models, a first for the RAV4.

The fourth-generation RAV4 has three engines (2.0-litre and 2.5-litre petrol, 2.2-litre diesel) and three trim levels (GX, GXL and Cruiser).

The 107kW/187Nm 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine powers the 2WD GX and GXL, priced at $28,490 and $32,490 respectively. Both are mated to a standard 6-speed manual transmission and returns an average fuel consumption of 7.4L/100km. The engine can also be paired with a new 7-speed MultiDrive Sport CVT automatic transmission that returns 7.7L/100km.

The 132kW/233Nm 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, shared with the Toyota Camry, can be found in the AWD GX, GXL and Cruiser. Prices open at $31,990 to $42,990. Average fuel consumption is rated at 8.6L/100km for the manual and 8.5L/100km when mated to the 6-speed automatic.

Meanwhile, the 110kW/340Nm 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel can be had on AWD models only. Prices start at $35,490 for the GX and work its way up to $46,490 for the Cruiser. It is, of course, the most fuel efficient in the range, returning 5.6L/100km for the manual and 6.5L/100km for the automatic.

Standard equipment list is long. Seven airbags, stability and traction control, ABS, Bluetooth connectivity, 60/40 split-fold rear seat and roof rails are all standard.

Mid-level GXL adds 17-inch alloy wheels, reverse camera, sports seats, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, power-retractable exterior mirrors, keyless smart entry and push-button start.

The range-topping Cruise buys satellite navigation, blind-spot monitor, powered tailgate, HID headlights, 8-way power driver’s seat and a tilt-and-slide moonroof.
