2011 Frankfurt Motor Show: Mazda CX-5 Makes Official Debut

The new Mazda CX-5 compact crossover has made its official debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Making first use of Mazda’s “Kodo” design language, the five-passenger SUV is expected to go into full production in early 2013.

“Kodo” means “soul of motion” in Japanese. Translated into automotive design, it gives the CX-5 distinctive flowing lines while maintaining an overall muscular appearance.

The new SUV will have 2 engine choices. A 2.0-liter direct-injection “SkyActiv-G” gasoline engine and two 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine, a normal version and a high output “SkyActiv-D” version. All engines will incorporate Mazda’s new SkyActiv technology, consisting of a variety of weight-saving, chassis and powertrain measures designed to enhance the driver’s sense of being connected to the vehicle. Mazda claims the SkyActiv-G is 10 percent lighter, 15 percent more fuel-efficient and produces 15 percent fewer CO2 emissions than its predecessor

Drivetrain will be provided by either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic transmission.
