2013 Volkswagen Golf Mk7 spotted in Australia

It appears that Volkswagen Australia is already receiving its first shipment of the Mk7 Volkswagen Golf hatchbacks, which is scheduled for a local debut in March.

We caught this truck transporting the highly anticipated Golf in Port Melbourne, presumably on the way to the holding yards, before being distributed nationwide.

Details of the local line-up are scant at the moment, but we expect the range to closely reflect the current-generation at launch. That means an entry level 1.2TSI turbocharged petrol engine generating 77kW of power and 160Nm of torque, followed by a 1.4TSI turbo petrol producing 108kW of power and 200Nm of torque.

The diesel range will likely consist of the 1.6TDI and 2.0TDI. The former will put out 77kW/250Nm while the latter will produce 110kW/320Nm. The entire engine line-up is set to be more frugal as well, and in certain case, setting the class benchmark.

Prices are also expected to align closely with the current-generation, but with better equipment. Stay tuned as we will bring you more information when available.
