The most powerful Volkswagen Golf GTI ever, the Golf GTI 40 Years, has arrived into Australian showrooms today.

Boasting 195kW of power and 350Nm of torque from its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the 40 Years edition is a significant 33kW more powerful than the standard GTI and 26kW more potent than the GTI Performance variant.

A new boost function gives the special edition Golf GTI a further power-up to 213kW, and also provides 380Nm of torque upon full ‘kick down’ of the acceleration for around 10 seconds each time.

Created to mark the 40th anniversary of the Golf GTI, the 40 Years edition is priced from $46,990 for the six-speed manual version and $48,990 for the six-speed dual-clutch DSG variant. Both stickers are plus on-roads, with the DSG model fetching a premium of $2,500 over the equivalent GTI Performance.

Incorporating some of the best technical features of the Golf GTI Performance model, the 40 Years edition includes larger brakes, electronically controlled mechanical front differential lock, 19” alloy wheels with a unique design, and adaptive chassis control.

A unique and purposeful styling treatment simultaneously upholds the Golf GTI’s legacy and sets the 40 Year model apart. A bespoke body kit including a new front bumper with larger air intakes and a two-piece rear roof spoiler which not only gives the GTI an aggressive stance on the road but also increases downforce. Elsewhere, a black side stripe on the body and the choice of a traditional tornado red and pure white paint exterior pay tribute to the original GTI.

The interior conveys a premium sport ambiance, with unique anniversary ‘honeycomb’ seat upholstery (featuring the GTI logo) and decorative inlays as well as an Alcantara-covered steering wheel and door trim inserts.
