President Obama meets ASIMO

Honda’s humanoid robot ASIMO has for the first time, met with U.S. President Barack Obama at the National Museum of Emergency Science and Innovation (known as “Miraikan”) in Tokyo, Japan.

ASIMO greeted President Obama in English, saying; “Mr. President, I am ASIMO, a humanoid robot.  It is a pleasure to meet you.” ASIMO also expressed a future goal to the President; “I keep training every day so that someday in the future I can help people in their homes.”

ASIMO then demonstrated some signature moves including running, kicking a ball and jumping. 

Honda is conducting robotics research for the purpose of creating robots that help people, while coexisting with them. ASIMO has met a number of VIPs from around the world since its introduction in 2000 however this was the first time meeting with a United States President.

Honda is the world’s biggest engine manufacturer, a leader in automotive research and development and consistently rated a top performer in customer satisfaction. There are more than 400,000 Hondas on the road in Australia.
