Next-gen Volkswagen Scirocco could debut in 2018

Volkswagen Scirocco R

While Volkswagen is working on a facelifted version of the current Scirocco, details about an all-new model based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform is emerging.

According to German publication, Autobild, the new Scirocco could hit that market in 2018. We already know Volkswagen’s intention to make the next-generation coupé a mainstream model, with the company hinting that it may not the coupé we know it today.

However, Autobild further reports that it will remain a four-seater with a large tailgate and a generous luggage compartment.

It will be powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines that will be familiar to the Volkswagen Golf range. Meaning a 90kW 1.4-litre TSI, a 162kW 2.0-litre TSI and a range-topping 220kW 2.0-litre TSI.

In Australia, the current-generation Scirocco is only available as a top of the range R with a 188kW 2.0-litre TSI. We may well see and expanded range should the next Scirocco becomes a mainstream model.
