Mk7 Volkswagen Golf GTI involved in two crashes in South Africa

Volkswagen must have offended the Gods upstairs as their misfortune continues like an avalanche. Last week, a brand-new Golf 7 GTI crashed during press launched in Cape Town, South Africa. Apparently, a light delivery truck made a U-turn right in front of the car, resulting in a collision that is certain to have written the GTI off. It was so severe that truck was flipped on its side, while the front left corner of the GTI was almost completely ripped off.

Luckily, the GTI’s safety equipment stood up to the test and both driver and passenger escaped with only a few bruises.

Yesterday though, another South African press car was involved in a collision – this time, with a cyclist. Although not as seriuos as the first incident, sources say something went wrong with the car’s steering and it locked, causing the car to veer over the road and hit the cyclist. It left the rider with a broken arm and a couple of cuts and bruises.

This doesn’t sound good, seeing the GTI was brand new. Nevertheless, we are glad that the cyclist will make a full recovery. As for the red GTI, a few days in the repair shop should see come back as new.
