Hyundai’s luxury division Genesis has added a Sport variant to the G80 midsize sedan (Hyundai Genesis in Australia). Set to debut at the 2017 North American Auto Show later this week, the Genesis G80 Sport packs a powerful 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 that delivers 272kW at 6,000rpm and an impressive 510Nm of torque from 1,300rpm through to 4,500rpm.

The new V6, shared with the Kia Stinger GT, is paired with a sport-tuned eight-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. An optional all-wheel drive is available to manage varying weather and road conditions.

Visually the 2018 Genesis G80 3.3T Sport differentiates from the rest of the range with sport front and rear bumpers, unique 19-inch wheels, quad exhaust tips, genuine carbon fibre interior trim, leather sport seats and sport steering wheel.

Hyundai Australia has not confirmed if the turbocharged Genesis will join the single 3.8-litre V6 model on offer Down Under. But if Kia’s Australian-bound Stinger GT is of any indication, the prospect of a turbo Genesis on local shores is high. Australia’s appetite for high-powered rear-drive sedans has always been strong and the turbo Genesis will make for an excellent replacement for the now end-of-production V8-powered Commodore and Falcon.
