The Formula SAE-A event is a 3 day student engineering competition focusing on the design and construction of internal combustion and electric race cars up to 600cc/80kW.

Universities from across Australia develop these vehicles every year and compete head to head in both racing and judged design presentations. The learning opportunities are substantial and provide students of all disciplines opportunities to develop their skills in design, management, manufacturing, communication, research and business operations in a real world environment.

The event is open to the public from Friday, 11th December through to Sunday, 13th at Calder Park raceway. Friday consists mainly of practice runs and inspections, the real action starts Saturday with events including Acceleration, and Autocross. Those interested in coming on Sunday will enjoy the endurance event where vehicles are put through a grueling test of longevity. Lack of testing becomes evident early with quite a few teams failing within the first few laps. The event’s schedule can be found here.

There are 30 teams competing in this years competition, six of which are electric and a further five are international. A full list of teams can be found at the following Link.
