Kia has introduced its fourth generation Sportage in Australia, priced from $28,990 plus on-road costs for the 2.0-litre petrol Si.
The range will be available in three trim levels – Si, SLi and Platinum – and a choice of three engines; a 114kW/192Nm 2.0-litre MPI petrol for the Si and SLi, a Platinum only 135kW/237Nm 2.4-litre GDi petrol and a 136kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbodiesel for all grades.
All models will feature a six-speed automatic transmission, driving the front wheels in the 2.0-litre petrol Si and SLi models and all four wheels via an on demand AWD system in all diesel variants and the 2.4-litre GDI Platinum.
For the first time on a local Kia, the new Sportage Platinum will feature the Smart Parking Assist System, which steers the car into parallel or 90-degree parking spaces automatically.
The new Sportage features a 30mm longer wheelbase (now 2,670mm), 40mm greater overall length and more aerodynamic rear spoiler resulting in a more swept-back shape.
Passenger space is also claimed to be improved, with headroom rising to 997mm (+5mm) and 993mm (+16mm) for front and rear passengers respectively, while maximum legroom has expanded to 1,129mm (+19mm) and 970mm (+7mm).
It is available with a choice of 17-, 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the all-new interior blends metalwork with soft-touch materials, with higher end models featuring leather and stitching for a more luxurious ambience.
All models get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and reverse camera with dynamic parking lines, while satellite navigation is standard for the SLi and Platinum. The infotainment system is paired with a 160 watt six-speaker audio system and Bluetooth hands-free. Aux-in and two USB ports for smartphones and MP3 players are also standard.
Another first is the Platinum’s new wireless charger for mobile devices. The 5W charging system activates when a compatible device is placed on the pad.
The new Sportage is available in seven colours: Clear White (standard, Snow White Pearl, Mineral Silver, Sparkling Silver, Fiery Red, Mercury Blue and Cherry Black. All colours, except Clear White, carry a $520 premium.
