2021 Kia Stinger gains new tech and an extra 3kW

Kia has given its popular fastback Stinger a mid-life update for 2021 with a more muscular design, higher quality interior and upgraded infotainment system.

The high-performance sedan also comes with an improved 3.3-litre T-GDi V6 with a new Electronic Variable Exhaust Valve system that promises a deeper exhaust note in Sport mode, but quieter in Eco and Comfort. Buyers are also treated to an extra 3kW of power for a total of 275kW.

As before, the twin-turbo V6 is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels.

Outside, the update brings new multifaceted reflector LED headlamps with restyled LED daytime running lights with a darker and sleeker appearance.

At the back, the new rear combination lamps are now connected with a new light signature, while the new turn signals comprise a collection of 10 individual LEDs arranged in a grid pattern to mimic the checkered flag.

Buyers of the V6 model will also have the option of specifying a larger wide-bore bright silver exhaust mufflers with a more purposeful, performance-inspired rear diffuser to give the car a more muscular rear appearance.

Two new exterior packages are also on offer for the firs time, although one is offered exclusively for the North American market.

World market V6 can now be optioned with a ‘Dark Package’, which brings a gloss black diffuser surround and black wide-bore muffler tips, along with a black Stinger emblem on the tailgate.

For North America, a new optional ‘Black Package’ brings lightweight, matte black 19-inch wheels, a new rear wing for the boot lid, and blacked out mirror caps and side fender trim.

Inside, the infotainment system has been upgraded to 10.25-inch with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The cabin also features a new mood lighting system with 64 colours.

Interior colour includes Nappa leather upholstery finished in Saturn Black, Red or Beige, alongside existing leather and synthetic leather options.

The 2021 Kia Stinger will hit global markets in the 3rd quarter of 2020.
