Mitsubishi has released the first official teaser image of the third-generation 2016 Mitsubishi Challenger ahead of its global debut at the 2015 Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale in August.

The new Challenger is set to feature the company’s Dynamic Shield frontal design, first seen on the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander.

Like its predecessor, the new model is expected to sit on the Triton platform, which means it will inherit its rugged bush bashing abilities.

Mitsubishi is still tight lipped on the SUV’s engine lineup but they are expected to mirror the Triton’s as well. That means a new 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo-diesel engine delivering 133kW at 3,500rpm and 430Nm at 2,500 matched with either a 6-speed manual or optional 5-speed auto.

Full details will be announced on August 1.
