The smallest model in the Alfa Romeo line-up has been updated with sharper looks, new engine and more features.

The 2016 Alfa Romeo MiTo gains a revised front fascia with a new grille, restyled headlights and redesigned front bumper. At the rear, subtle changes include new tail light cluster and revised rear bumper.

Inside, the new MiTo will gain an updated Uconnect touchscreen multimedia system and new design fabric and leather upholstery.

A new 1.3-litre turbo diesel engine will extend the current powertrain offerings to three, joining the turbocharged 0.9-litre two cylinder and 1.4-litre four cylinder petrol engines.

Rated at 69kW, the new diesel-powered MiTo will slot in as the middle child of the range and available with either a six-speed manual or twin-clutch transmissions.

The MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde will remain at the top of the range, powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre four cylinder petrol developing 125kW at 5,500rpm and 250Nm at 2,500rpm, enabling a 0-100km/h blast in 7.5 seconds with a six-speed manual gearbox.
