Alfa Romeo is set to renew interest in the 2014 Guilietta at the Frankfurt Motor Show which will start tomorrow. The revised Guilietta will get improved engines and new features including a new 2.0-litre diesel engine.
New 150 HP 2.0 JTDM-2 engine
The new 150 HP (110 kW) 2.0 JTDM engine is making its first appearance with the 2014 Giulietta range. It is equipped with the second-generation MultiJet injection system that the company claims will give improved efficiency and reduced emissions. By using a small-sized turbocharger, peak torque can be delivered in the lower rpm ranges (380 Nm at 1750 rpm).
All available engines in the new 2014 range have been updated to comply with the ‘Euro 5 +’ (Euro 6 ready) standard.
Uconnect with 5” or 6.5” RadioNav touchscreen
Alfa Romeo’s new Uconnect multimedia device for the Guilietta is available with a 5.0-inch or 6.5-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation system and voice commands for easy control of several multimedia sources and outputs.
The Uconnect system lets you access all the main functions, from the analogue and digital radio (DAB) – in markets where it is sold – through to all the main multimedia resources (mediaplayer, iPod, iPhone, smartphone), which can be connected via USB port or Aux-in socket.
The system also includes an advanced Bluetooth interface to access extra functions, such as phone call management or reading received SMS text messages via text-to-speech technology, and an innovative Audio Streaming system that reproduces music files and web radio stations directly from a smartphone in streaming via Bluetooth on the Uconnect device.
Finally, with the Uconnect Nav with 6.5-inch touchscreen, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta MY 2014 customer can rely on the satellite navigation function with 3D bird’s eye view maps and progressive route guidance or the text-to-speech function for entering the destination address using voice commands.
Exterior
The 2014 Guilietta is available with three new colours: Moonlight Pearl, Anodizzato Blue and Bronze.
Updates to the front fascia include a revised front grille and fog lights with chrome-plated frame. The front headlights have DRL with LED technology and a day light function for improved active safety, while the rear lights use LED technology in the same way. Three new alloy wheel designs (16-inch, 17-inch and 18-inch) freshen up the Giulietta MY 2014’s side profile.
Interior
The new Guilietta’s interior prides itself with a new door panel and grab handle, along with the brand new insert on the central console and dashboard. All elements are treated with uniform scratch-proof paint and the trims are consistent in colour and materials.
Also new are the seats and redesigned steering wheel with aluminium insert while making their début on the Quadrifoglio Verde version are new sports seats upholstered in black leather/Alcantara with contrasting stitching and electro-welded logo on the backrest (also available on the QV Sportiva Pack).
The Progression version now offers black/anthracite grey fabric trim, while the MY14 Distinctive customer can choose between two colour combinations for the fabric upholstery: black/tobacco and anthracite grey. The Exclusive version comes with leather/fabric upholstery that can be in the shade of either black/anthracite grey or tobacco/anthracite grey. All the upholstery is available in quality leather in the shades of red, tobacco or black as an option.
Finally, the luggage compartment is now fully lined (bottom, sides and behind the rear seats) with black trim, while the storage compartment on the left of the steering wheel, the upper glove compartment on the dashboard and the USB port have been repositioned close to the DNA selector to improve usability.
Local market
The new Alfa Romeo Giulietta MY 2014 will arrive in Australia in the second quarter of 2014. Full line-up, pricing and specification will be announced closer to launch.
