2013 Volkswagen Mk7 Golf GTI price and specifications

The Volkswagen Mk7 Golf GTI has launched in Australia priced at just $1,000 more than the outgoing model, from $41,490 for the Golf GTI 6-speed Manual. The 6-speed DSG will add a further $2,500 to the price, while the 3-door model has been dropped from the Australian lineup.

Sporting a revised 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with engine start/stop, the standard Golf GTI delivers 162kW @ 4,500 – 6,200rpm and 350Nm @ 1,500 – 4,400rpm. It will sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds.

Enthusiasts will have to wait till the first half of 2014, when the Golf GTI lineup in Australia is complemented by a new performance companion – the Golf GTI Performance. Priced from $47,990, the GTI Performance brings an extra 7kW of power, while delivering the same amount of torque. It will be paired exclusively with a 6-speed DSG.

Standard equipment on both models are extensive, with the standard GTI getting LED front fog lights, rear roof spoiler with black aerodynamic extensions, tinted rear taillight clusters, 18-inch ‘Austin’ alloy wheels, driver fatigue detection system, driving profile selection including adaptive dampers, rear view camera, 5.8” Discover Media audio and satellite navigation system, Bluetooth with audio streaming, aluminium pedals and door sill scuff plates with front red illumination.

The Golf GTI Performance adds bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, dark tinted LED taillights, tinted glass and 19-inch ‘Santiago’ alloy wheels. Inside, the sports seats features ‘Clark’ tartan, with the addition of race-style alcantara trim on the head rest and side bolsters.
