A power to weight ratio of 2.83 kilograms per hp, supercar-taming 3.4 seconds sprint from zero to 100km/h and a top speed of over 300km/h. This is the new Oettinger 500R, based on the Volkswagen Golf R.

Unveiled at the 2015 Wörthersee GTI gathering in Austria, the street-legal race car packs an extensively modified 2.5-litre TFSI five-cylinder in-line engine with 381kW (518hp) and 680Nm melting its crank.

The monstrous power comes from a modified turbocharger and a new engine mapping, along with high-performance forged pistons, revised intake and improved water-cooling circuit.

There’s also a customised Oettinger sports exhaust system complete with downpipe and a double-flow catalytic converter. The car’s differential and clutch have also been adapted for heavy punishment at the track.

Keeping handling in check is a strengthened chassis with widen aluminium front and rear axle. Hanging off them are six-piston high-performance brake calipers at the front and four-piston at the rear, acting on enlarged slotted rotors with sports brake pads and steel flex brake pipes for maximum braking performance.

The racer is lowered on a set of 3-way adjustable KW coilover suspension. Making contact with the tarmac is a set of 20-inch ATS forged Wheels measuring 10 x 20 and wrapped in Dunlop Sport Maxx 275/25 R20 all-round.

Described as a “super sports car” for the track, the Oettinger 500R features an aggressive widebody kit with no shortage of air intakes, vents, extended fenders and aero bits.

It’s all business inside, too. Alcantara bucket seats, leather-Alcantara sports steering wheel and new gear knob with striking orange accents set the tone for a racecar-like interior.

The tuner affirms the car “is not just for the showroom”, as the company plans to produce the Oettinger 500R in limited numbers, with price starting at approximately €150,000.
