Next-gen turbocharged Audi RS4 Avant sounds….demure

2017 audi rs4 avant prototype

Audi has let the next-generation RS4 Avant loose on the Nürburgring in Germany.

Caught undergoing dynamics development at the famed circuit, some of you may notice the prototype lacking the growl of the current model and that’s because Audi is ditching the naturally aspirated V8 for a new twin-turbo V6, much like what BMW has done for the M3/M4.

The new powerplant is expected to dish out as much as 368kW and features an electric turbocharger along with a conventional blower. Power is sent to all four wheels via a dual-clutch transmission.

Aesthetically, the new model will get flared wheel arches on all four corners, as well as an aggressive body kit to set it apart from its lesser siblings. Inside, it will gain sports seats and a sports steering wheel.
