British engine manufacturer Cosworth has shifted its focus from being a manufacturer of individual performance components to the engineering and supply of complete performance upgrade packages. The first of its new range of Power Packages has been rolled out for the FA20 engine platform, found under the bonnet of the Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86.

Stage 1 of the performance package includes a retuned ECU, stainless steel sports exhaust system and reworked air intake system for improved air flow. The upgrades raise the power output of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine to 164 kW, an increase of 17 kW over the standard setup.

An extra 3 kW can be had with stage 2 which consists of a front pipe and a spherical resonator, bringing total power output to 167 kW. Stage 3 uses a performance 4-2-1 manifold header to bump power output further to 171 kW.

“Cosworth has significantly altered its approach to performance aftermarket. We are now able to supply completely validated solutions – as an entire system – to guarantee reliability and performance. This is a huge step change and one that will enable Cosworth to become the performance upgrade partner of choice for car manufacturers, as well as tuning professionals and enthusiasts around the world,” said Hal Reisiger, Chief Executive of Cosworth Group.
