Volkswagen teases 2014 Volkswagen Golf R

Volkswagen has started the countdown for the preview of the next-generation 2014 Volkswagen Golf R Mk7, which is currently frozen in a block of ice.

The ultimate Golf is set to make its public debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March, but will be revealed beforehand online in a fortnight.

Although prototype versions of the Mk7 Golf R has been spotted out on the roads before, this is the first time the company a new car is shown in its near production ready body.

The new Golf R is expected to utilise a tweaked version of the Mk7 Golf GTI’s EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. Power is said to be around 215kW, up from the current 199kW (188kW in Australia).

Coupled with a new Haldex all-wheel-drive system, the fastest Golf is expected to live up to its name and sprints from 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the current-generation. According to certain reports, top speed is expected to hit 250km/h.

It will be a long couple of weeks, but all will be revealed when the ice melts! The 2014 Volkswagen Golf R Mk7 is scheduled to hit markets early next year.
