It’s official. The Alfa Romeo 4C is the fastest production car with less than 250HP (184kW) around the Nürburgring. The Italian company released a video today of the 4C achieving the record-breaking feat with Horst von Saurma behind the wheel.

Alfa Romeo’s highly anticipated sports car completed the lap in 8 minutes and 4 seconds on the 12 September. The stock standard car is equipped with type-approved road Pirelli “AR” P Zero Trofeo tyres specifically developed for the 4C.

The Alfa Romeo 4C is powered by a 1.75-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder direct injected engine that generates 177kW of power and 350Nm of torque. Married to Alfa’s latest generation “Alfa TCT” dry twin-clutch automatic transmission, the 895kg rear driver will sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds on route to a top speed of 258km/h.

When it arrives in Australia in the second quarter of 2014, the 4C will be priced from $80,000. A more focused Stradale version is also on the cards which is tipped to have 198kW of powered and based on the track-only 4C Racing.
