Subaru has updated the 2014 Subaru Outback with a more rugged look and a minor price increase.

Subaru Australia Managing Director, Nick Senior, said: “We’ve had a lot of customer feedback suggesting owners would like a slightly tougher-looking Outback with greater body protection, which is especially useful on rural roads where this wagon rates highly.

“These MY14 upgrades deliver on both fronts and will help maintain Outback’s profile as one of the most versatile and capable wagons on Australian roads.

“The introduction of the diesel auto variant earlier this year combined with these latest changes highlights our long-term commitment to refining and enhancing our cars with the passing of each model year, in line with our All 4 the Driver customer promise.”

The muscular MY14 Outback styling upgrades includes:

  • Roof rails with integrated cross bars
  • Side sills and cladding
  • Wheel arch guards
  • Front and rear under body guard protectors
  • Front mud flaps
  • Dark grey front grille
  • Dark grey alloy wheels
  • Sporty headlights with black background

Subaru said the added features are worth $2,500, but the Outback RRP has only increased by $500 on each variant.

The styling upgrades are standard on all Outback models, however customers not wanting the full kit have the option to specify just roof rails, side sills, dark grey front grille and alloy wheels, and the headlights with black background.

Already this year, Subaru announced multiple technical refinements to Outback, benefitting efficiency, handling and steering.

All Outback 2.5i variants added the new, more fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly FB horizontally-opposed Boxer engine.

Outback’s revised All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system improves precision in torque distribution between front and back wheels, refining handling and stability.
