Lexus Australia has partnered with New South Wales Police to provide two hybrid powered high-visibility police vehicles for its Road Safe and Snow Safe campaigns.

Launched as part of the kick-off to the official ski-season, Lexus GS and RX 450h models will patrol the state’s Southern Region, stretching from the Royal National Park on Sydney’s outskirts through to the snowfields.

The vehicles will be used at a variety of regional and community based activities across the state, including roadside campaigns, sporting and community events and motorsport events.

“Lexus’ involvement with NSW Police will assist in their efforts to engage with the community, while also highlighting the flexibility and diversity of the Lexus hybrid vehicle range,” said Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley.

Inspector Jim Fryday from NSW Police Force’s Southern Region said the Lexus hybrids will play a pivotal role in local road safety campaigns.

“Road safety remains one of the top priorities for police, and unique cars like a Lexus are a great way to engage with the community and discuss safe driver behaviour,” Insp Fryday said. “The Lexus hybrids will give us an opportunity to talk to people on an informal basis and hopefully make a positive impression about police and what we do.”

“One of the hybrids will be our ‘Snow Safe’ community car throughout the ski season – it will be highly visible and remind motorists to slow down, check for hazards and arrive safe. The other hybrid will be used at sporting events, including NRL and NBL games in the Illawarra, V8 Supercars at Bathurst and Sydney, and community events throughout southern NSW,” Insp Fryday said.

Road Safe and Snow Safe are initiatives of the NSW Police Force targeting speeding, drink-driving and driver fatigue, with a focus on motorists travelling to and from the snow fields.

The range topping Lexus GS 450h is powered by a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain developing a combined power output of 254kW, allowing it to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 5.9 seconds.

The RX 450h SUV is powered by a 220kW petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain and features an innovative E-Four all-wheel drive system that ensures the ideal amount of grip is applied across all four wheels.

Both models consume just 6.3-litres of fuel per 100km.
