High-riding TT coming; likely known as the TTQ

Audi has reportedly decided to put the TT Offroad concept (shown) into production, the first Audi TT variant ever.

According to a report from Automobile magazine, management chose the four-door Offroad because the TT Allroad two-door was considered to be too cramped to be practical, and too close to the TT Coupe, while the TT Sportback was deemed impractical as it lacked rear headroom and has a very tall loading lip.

When it hits showrooms, the TT Offroad would take on the BMW X4 and the Range Rover Evoque in the style-led segment. The car is also said to feature a new interior to differentiate it from the TT.

While nothing is official, Audi is purportedly considering a hybrid system developing more than 331kW (450 hp) combining a 213kW (290 hp) 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors – a 40kW (55hp) unit integrated in the transmission and a 85kW (115hp) unit driving the rear wheels.

As for the name?

While logic dictates that should be known as the Q4, the car will likely be known as the TTQ due to the fact that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles holds the rights to the Q4 name.
