Audi TT RS plus arrives in Australia

Audi has introduced the Audi TT RS plus in Australia, priced from $139,900. In the same vein that the Audi R8 plus is a little more powerful than the R8, the TT RS plus’ 2.5-litre turbocharged 5-cylinder has 15kW more power and 15Nm more torque than the TT RS, generating 265kW/465Nm.

Mated to a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission with launch control and quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, the TT RS plus launches from 0-100km/h in a blistering 4.1 seconds and en route to a limited 280km/h top speed. Despite these impressive figures, fuel consumption is rated at just 8.5 litres per 100km.

This can be attributed in part to the extremely lightweight Audi Space Frame (ASF) body, constructed from aluminium at the front and sheet steel at the rear. The TT RS plus weighs just 1,475kg, giving a power-to-weight ratio of 5.6 kg/kW.

To reign in the power, a high-performance brake system consisting of four-piston fixed calipers in conjunction with perforated brake discs at the front is standard. The Audi TT RS plus rolls on a set of 19-inch “Rotor” alloy wheels that are painted black with contrasting red rim flanges and wrapped in 255/35 tyres. Audi’s magnetic ride adaptive damping system is also standard.

Visually, the TT RS plus’ single frame grille features diamond-pattern mesh in polished anthracite with matte aluminium-look frame. The mirror caps are made of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer, while the dual-branch sport exhaust system has black oval tailpipe trims. A sound flap further intensifies the sound of the engine. There is also a large, fixed rear wing that increased downforce at the back. Inside, the gear lever is emblazoned with a TT RS plus badge.
