Toyota has unveiled the 2015 Toyota Camry at the New York Auto Show. The heavily face lifted Camry is said to be “rebuilt from the ground up with almost 2,000 new parts.”

“Customers today love the durability, quality and value that the Camry represents, but they are looking for a little more style, comfort and performance, and this 2015 Camry has all of the above,” said Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations of Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc.

“This is the new Camry, and it’s coming from the new Toyota.”

Every exterior panel of the car has been redesigned, with only the old car’s roof carried over. The massive trapezoidal lower air intake that merges somewhat with the grille seems to have been inspired by sister company, Lexus’ spindle grille.

At the other end, the new Camry gets larger taillights that taper into the boot lid and are connected by a chrome number plate garnish.

The new car is slightly longer by 45mm (1.8 inches) and features a 10mm (0.4 inches) wider track.

Underneath that most daring exterior yet of any Camry, the chassis and body structure have been bolstered with additional spot welds for better rigidity. A retuned suspension is said to take the Camry’s handling to “a whole new level of responsiveness.”

Inside, while changes are minimal, soft touch materials have been used for a more premium feel and the instrument panel has been updated as well. It features a 4.2-inch TFT screen nestled between the three-dimensional Optitron gauges.

Toyota said the 2015 Camry is the quietest Camry, ever. The new car’s window and door seals were improved to keep noise outside while the carpet features 30 per cent more insulating materials. Even the Camry’s side mirrors were redesigned to better control air flow to reduce turbulence and noise.

The Camry will continue to be offered with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, or a 2.5-litre Atkinson Cycle engine with Hybrid Synergy drive matched to an E-CVT.

The 2015 Toyota Camry will go on sale in the US later this year.
