2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG to get twin-turbo V8

The next-generation Mercedes C63 AMG is expected to arrive in late 2014, according to a report by British publication AutoCar. (Standard C-Class with AMG kit pictured)

Under the bonnet of the new C63 AMG is a newly developed 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, in place of the current 6.2-litre V8. The new mill is expected to churn out anywhere between 338 kW (454 hp) and 367 kW (493 hp). Power is sent to the rear wheels via a new 7-speed 7G-MCT SpeedShift automatic transmission, which will find its way in all future AMG models.

The new 2014 C-Class has just been officially revealed last week. At launch it will be offered with 3 engines starting with the C220 BlueTEC with a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel developing 125 kW and a healthy 400 Nm of torque.

The C180 is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 115 kW and 250 Nm. Next up the line is the C200 with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine outputting 135 kW and 300 Nm of torque.

New economical petrol and turbo engines will join the line up further down the track with output ranging from 115 kW to 175 kW. In addition, there will also be a hybrid in the form of C300 BlueTEC Hybrid encompassing a 4-cylinder diesel with 150 kW supported by a 20 kW electric motor. The powertrain yields an average fuel consumption figure of just 3.9L/100km.
