A mid-engined Hyundai Veloster prototype has been spotted testing in South Korea.

The images, posted by Blood Type Racing on their Facebook page, shows a much wider and lower Veloster, with air scoops down its sides, suggesting it is a mid-engined model.

Unlike the production Veloster, the prototype sports only two doors, with the rear door deleted altogether.

Not much else is known about the prototype at this stage, but Hyundai has dabbled with the idea of a mid-engine car with last year’s Veloster Midship concept.

Developed in-house by Hyundai’s High Performance Team, who was responsible for the i20 WRC, the concept features a 2.0-litre turbocharged Theta GDI engine generating 220kW mounted mid-ship.

However, Hyundai has officially said there were no plans to put the concept into production. Perhaps they have a change of mind?
